On Saturday, September 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Grove Street Plaza in Darien will transform into La Place des Artistes, a Montmartre, Paris-styled free outdoor art event where visitors can enjoy art and interact with local talented artists while supporting the Darien Arts Center. Over 20 local artists will display and sell their work with a percentage of the proceeds benefitting the DAC. Entertainment will include DAC musicians, dancers and a DAC art teacher who will demonstrate painting techniques on site. Food vendors and carts will provide French themed cuisine such as crepes and pastries.

This gathering of the greater Darien artistic community is the brainchild of local artist Nobuko Miki and her desire to provide opportunities for local artists and residents to connect through art. “I believe that we live in a community that is rich in artistic talent, beautiful scenery, unique subjects and inspired collectors. There was a time when art shows and fundraising gallery events would abound. My dream is to revitalize and re-engage the local artistic community.” Penny Glassmeyer and David Genovese, local real estate developers who are revitalizing Darien’s downtown streetscape, are helping to bring Nobu’s dream to fruition by generously providing the Grove Street Plaza venue and other support.

Other committee members helping to organize La Place des Artistes include Pat Atkin, Gigi Barrett, Peter Saverine, Kaye Leong of Darien Rowayton Bank, and DAC Executive Director Amy Allen, who commented, “We are so grateful to have the community’s support for this event. It’s a great backdrop for local artists to come together, as well as to enjoy talent from the Darien Arts Center.” The DAC, a local non-profit, provides educational programs in dance, visual arts, music and theatre as well as special events and community theatre produced by DAC Stage. La Place des Artistes is sponsored by Nobuko Miki, Baywater Properties, Darien Rowayton Bank, PG Properties and The Darien Times. Rain date for the event is October 3.
