Middle School Theatre Makers

Middle school students, ages 11 to 14, can register now for a new student-driven performance opportunity at the Darien Arts Center. In Middle School Theatre Makers, young artists will collaborate to develop a script, design costumes and props and perform their very own play. The class takes place on Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., September 11th through November 13th.

Students will get a taste of what it is like to work together as a theatre company, assuming the roles of director, designer, writer and actor. Their culminating event will be performed for family, friends and theatregoers on November 13th. The 10-session class is $250 (plus a $35 registration fee) and will be lead by DAC Theatre Program Director, Maria Pizzarello.

Maria, DAC Theatre Director, is a teaching artist with Open Arts Alliance and has been a NYC Public School teaching artist since 2005, where she taught Shakespeare and playwriting, directed after-school performances and adjudicated auditions for the High School of Performing Arts. Growing up in New York City, Maria attended LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts for Drama and received her BA in Performance from Fordham University. She is also an Equity actress and a playwright published by Stage Partners and Playscripts, Inc.
