On November 1, the Darien Arts Center proudly marked its 50th Anniversary, a milestone made possible by decades of community support, dedicated volunteers, passionate instructors, and generations of students who have brought creativity to life in our studios and on our stage. To commemorate this anniversary, First Selectman Jon Zagrodzky officially proclaimed November 1 as Darien Arts Center Day — a meaningful recognition of the role the arts have played in shaping our town for half a century.
The celebration brought together longtime supporters, families, alumni, instructors, and community members for an evening honoring DAC’s history and the people whose vision, leadership, and generosity built the organization from the ground up. During the event, we recognized five honorees whose contributions have profoundly shaped the Darien Arts Center: Pam Heckel, Marion Weatherstone, Anne Ernst Wright, Anne Perlin, and Frank Kemp (in memoriam). Their commitment to arts education, volunteer service, and community enrichment has left a lasting legacy that continues to guide the mission of DAC today.
A highlight of the evening was the launch of the Darien Arts Center Community Enrichment Fund, created to expand access to the arts for children across Fairfield County. This fund helps families afford classes in visual arts, dance, and music — ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, explore, and grow creatively, regardless of financial circumstances. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the fund begins with strong early momentum and a powerful vision for widening access in the years ahead.
Throughout the night, guests enjoyed performances, student showcases, and reflections from instructors who highlighted the lasting impact of arts education on confidence, imagination, and community connection. The celebration not only honored the past but also shined a light on the next generation of artists, dancers, and musicians who carry DAC’s mission forward.
As we reflect on the last 50 years, we are filled with gratitude for everyone who has shaped the Darien Arts Center — from our founders and board members to our volunteers, instructors, families, and donors. Your belief in the importance of the arts has allowed DAC to grow, evolve, and flourish for five decades.
Now, as we move into the season of giving, we invite our community to help carry this momentum forward. Through contributions to the Community Enrichment Fund and continued support of our programs, together we can ensure that the next 50 years of creativity in Darien are even brighter.
Thank you for being part of our story — and for helping us continue to inspire, connect, and create every day.
