Darien, CT — The Darien Arts Center Dance Academy invites the community to experience So We Think We Can Dance (SWTWCD), an original performance created entirely by students in the DAC Company, Apprentice, and Trainee programs. Produced, choreographed, costumed, and lit by the dancers themselves, the show highlights the creativity, leadership, and artistic growth of DAC’s young performers.

So We Think We Can Dance returns to the Weatherstone Studio on Saturday, February 28 at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 1 at 2:00 p.m. The production features student choreographers working with more than 20 dancers, ages 10–18, who manage every stage of the creative process while performing original works across a wide range of dance styles.

Originally conceived by former DAC students—many of whom have gone on to pursue professional careers in dance—So We Think We Can Dance offers a rare opportunity for young artists to take full creative ownership and experience what it truly means to produce a show from start to finish. Since its debut, the program has earned enthusiastic community support and sold-out audiences.

“The Darien Arts Center’s SWTWCD is such a unique experience. I watched this show when I was little, then became part of it in middle school, and now I’ve had the opportunity to serve as a producer for the past three years, which feels incredibly full-circle,” said Logan Samuel, a senior student in the DAC Dance Academy and one of the producers of the show. “It’s so rewarding to take the technique we’re learning in class and apply it to creating our own choreography, then see that process come to life onstage. We create alongside our friends and peers in a low-pressure, supportive environment, which gives us the freedom to experiment and take risks. In more traditional shows, you don’t always get to choose what dances or styles you perform, so SWTWCD offers a rare opportunity to explore both familiar and new styles you’re passionate about and take ownership of your creative choices. Seeing everything come together is exciting, and it’s also been an amazing way to learn what truly goes into producing and directing a show.”

That hands-on, student-driven approach is at the heart of So We Think We Can Dance. Beyond the performances themselves, dancers gain real-world experience in collaboration, leadership, and artistic decision-making. These skills extend far beyond the stage and empower students to take true ownership of the production.

With its emphasis on creativity and experiential learning, So We Think We Can Dance reflects the Darien Arts Center’s commitment to nurturing young artists. Audiences can expect an evening of dynamic choreography, fresh perspectives, and performances shaped by the voices of the next generation of dancers.
